My Approach

My personal approach to naturopathic medicine begins at first with the patient's goals. People live busy lives and want results. And so, I take my time to listen, to be sure that we don’t waste any time doing exactly what has already been done in the past for treatment; but instead, to try something new. I believe strongly in the body’s own ability to heal, and feel that all that we can do as physicians, is to help guide a person to what it is they need individually, for their own body to be able to restore its healing ability.

As a naturopathic physician, instead of only focusing on one's health on the biochemical and physical level, I try my best to be comprehensive in my approach to an individual, by paying attention to the interaction of the different physiological systems, and how they interact on different levels. This approach has many different names, all of which mean essentially the same thing: some of these terms include: Functional medicine, Mind-Body medicine, the Bio-psycho-social model of health, or even more technically verbose, Clinical Psychoneuroimmunoendocrinology.

Personally speaking, I feel that my goal as a naturopathic physician is to help the neurological system – which integrates the different levels of functioning, to simply rebalance itself into a more relaxed, balanced mode so that the body can heal itself. What that means for you, is that my aim is to improve your ability to react to stress in life in as healthy way as possible. Once you’re less stressed, then all the things you do for yourself to make your self feel better (taking prescription drugs, supplements, exercise, eating well, working on having good relationships), will have a much easier time to make an actual difference in your life.

But lowering stress in one’s life, and reducing the strain on the neurological system isn’t an easy job, so there needs to be different options on different levels to be effective.

Assessment involves using naturopathic and conventional assessment (physical exam, lab diagnostics, chinese pulse analysis, applied kinesiology, electro-dermal testing, heart rate variability, etc.), in order to assess the health concern and possible causative factors.

This will often include either a homeopathic or acupuncture intake, as well as assessing what would be the most appropriate treatment (determining allergens, and other obstacles to health, as well as which supplements, dietary modifications, or botanicals might be supportive).

Treatment focuses on reducing the level of stress on the physiological systems, and nervous system. It consists of first addressing any obstacles that are preventing the body from restoring its own balance on the functional-neurological level, through homeopathy and acupuncture. This is then supported by clinical nutrition, supplementation and botanicals as necessary. Counseling and bodywork further aid in eliminating any obstacles or blocks to health, and provide the means to support and re-pattern the body into health. In short, each patient receives a comprehensive individualized treatment plan that is tailored to their health needs and goals.
